Stories Through Collage Workshop
In celebration of the UCC 100th Anniversary, the CD Committee is hosting a special multigenerational workshop called Stories Through Collage with local artist Kelly Stevenson. All ages 10- adult are welcome!
Kelly writes:
Everyone’s stories are important and deserve to be told. In this workshop we will explore ways to use found images, text and personal or family or church related photos to uncover and express our own stories and consider the histories of those who came before us. Discover how art can be used as a form of visual personal archive and way to say “we were here, and we mattered”. No experience necessary to participate.
All materials will be provided to take part in the workshop. Additionally, participants are encouraged to bring copies of personal photos they may wish to use in their projects or other collage materials if so desired. Copies of photos can be made at the Lakeshore United Church office (for a small donation) leading up to the workshop.
This is the perfect opportunity to spend time creating a collage to tell the story of your journey to Lakeshore United. People have come to be at Lakeshore in many different ways. Everyone's story is unique. All are welcome!! Collages can be exhibited in the display at our celebration on June 8.
Tuesday, May 27th from 6:30 to 9pm

Artist Bio
Kelly Stevenson is an award-winning artist and graduate of OCADU’s Drawing and Painting program in 2012. She is currently based out of Blyth, Ontario.
Her practice is multi-disciplinary including drawing, painting, installation and fibre art. Much of her work has a social and/or political undertone with which she strives to use to open a dialogue between the viewer, the work and society at large.
Kelly believes art should be accessible to people of all economic backgrounds and brings focus to the production of affordable art in the form of zines, prints, stickers, bags, tshirts, calendars, pins and greeting cards.

Resources on Privilege, Anti-Racism
This is a time to listen. Listen to the voices of those with lived experience of racism. Listening to their voices so that our actions will be thoughtful, appropriate and helpful. When we are moved, we all have a tendency to want to rush out an do something. As a congregation of mostly white, middle class people - it is time for us to listen, learn and examine our own privilege.
Here are some resources to do that.
The United Church of Canada has resources: https://www.united-church.ca/social-action/justice-initiatives/anti-racism
The United Church also has resources for exploring healing and reconciliation with Indigeneous Communities.
